A roadside bomb exploded near to the governor of Taez province in Yemen, injuring him and four of his guards.
Amin Mahmood and his entourage were in Enma, a city north of Aden, when the explosion took place on Tuesday.
Mr Mahmood was driving away from the home of commander Fadhel Hassan when the blast struck, 300 metres from Mr Hassan's residence, a military spokesman told The National.
President Abdrabu Mansur Hadi called Governor Mahmood and praised him for courage and determination over the incident.
Also this week, a resident of Al Tuhaiyta and a girl died under torture in a makeshift Houthi detention camp set up in a girls' school south of Al Hodeidah, Minister of Human Rights Mohammed Askar said.
"The family of the girl received a phone call from the Houthis on Sunday telling them to come to take their daughter's body" the minister stated to The National.
According to Mr Askar, about 5,000 people are being subjected to torture in Houthi prisons.
Meanwhile in Riyadh, Yemen's Prime Minister Ahmed bin Dagher rejected claims that the separatist Southern Movement was an Iranian-backed militia.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Mr bin Dagher refuted ever saying the movement was affiliated to neighbouring Iran.

Mr bin Dagher's tweet follows statements made by Aden's former governor Abdul-Aziz Al Muflehi in which he accused the prime minister of comparing the Southern Movement to the Iran-backed Houthis.
This in turn caused an uproar in Aden where residents felt that their men's sacrifice to liberate the country from Houthi control was being undermined.
