Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect

Dutch police secure a shopping street after a stabbing incident occurred in the centre of The Hague, Netherlands. AP

Three people have been wounded in a stabbing on a shopping street in The Hague, Dutch police said on Friday.

Authorities said later on Friday that the were injured were three minors who were subsequently released from prison.

Images posted to social media showed several dozen onlookers being kept behind police fencing seeking a glimpse of the area where the stabbing took place.

The street was busy with people looking for Black Friday deals.

A manhunt has commenced for the suspect.

Police said they were looking for a "slightly dark-skinned man" with curly hair aged between 40 and 50 wearing a black top, scarf and grey jogging bottoms.

"We have an extensive investigation into the stabbing incident on the Grote Marktstraat," police said in a statement.

It was not clear if the stabbing was a terror incident.

National broadcaster NOS, quoting "varied sources", said: "At this moment there is no indication of a terrorist motive."

The attack came on the same day that a man attacked people in London, killing two people.

The suspect, who was wearing a hoax suicide vest, was tackled by members of the public and then fatally shot by officers. Police said they were treating the incident as a terrorist attack.
