A California-raised pastry chef who owns an east London bakery will create a lemon elderflower cake decorated with fresh flowers for the May 19 wedding of Prince Harry and Meaghan Markle.
Kensington Palace said Violet Cakes owner Claire Ptak, who focuses on using seasonal and organic ingredients, will also incorporate bright Spring flavours – a break from the traditional fruitcake.
Ms Markle has previously interviewed Ms Ptak for her former lifestyle website The Tig.
"I can't tell you how delighted I am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms Markle's wedding cake," Ms Ptak said in a statement. "Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavour, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of."
