Germany's president described the Abraham Accord as "nothing less than historic" and told the visiting Israeli president that his country took concerns over Iran "very seriously".
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who met President Reuven Rivlin in Berlin, said he shared Israel's objective in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
"The previous American administration's policy did not, we believe, support positive developments and we hope that we can bring about change in the future with the new administration and our European neighbours," Mr Steinmeier said.
Mr Rivlin, whose visit to Germany was his first stop on a European tour, urged the international community to stand united against Iranian aggression to protect the Middle East. He credited the Abraham Accord for bringing some of the region's moderate voices to the fore.
"The Abraham Accord, with the UAE and other Arab nations, is an opening for hope and to strengthen the moderate voices in the region," he said.
“Right now, extremist forces led by Iran threaten to undermine this stability in the region.
“The international community must stand united and stand firmly, without compromise, against Iran’s nuclear programme and its support for terrorist organisations that threaten Israel and regional security.”

Who are the Soroptimists?
The first Soroptimists club was founded in Oakland, California in 1921. The name comes from the Latin word soror which means sister, combined with optima, meaning the best.
The organisation said its name is best interpreted as ‘the best for women’.
Since then the group has grown exponentially around the world and is officially affiliated with the United Nations. The organisation also counts Queen Mathilde of Belgium among its ranks.
