British ministers said proscription of the Muslim Brotherhood on the terrorism list remained under consideration in London as the government addressed concerns the group was capitalising on the Covid-19 pandemic.

Delivering a parliamentary statement, James Cleverly, the Minister for the Middle East, said the British government took concerns over the Muslim Brotherhood seriously

Andrew Rosindell, a Conservative MP laid a series of questions to ministers that raised his fears over the Muslim Brotherhoods efforts to promote its influence among people affected by coronavirus.

“The British Government continues to take concerns about the Muslim Brotherhood seriously and keeps under review the activities undertaken by the Muslim Brotherhood's associates overseas," Mr Cleverly said.

Victoria Atkins, the Home Office minister, said her department already refuses visas to members and associates of the Muslim Brotherhood and ensures that charities linked to it are not misused to finance operations.

It is also keeping the activities and views of the organisation under review to consider if they meet the legal test to be proscribed as a terror organisation, Ms Atkins added.

Last year the US gave serious consideration to designating the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organisation.
