The US senator Jim Webb arrived in Myanmar's administrative capital Naypyidaw today for a historic meeting with military ruler Than Shwe, a local official said. Mr Webb, a Democrat, flew into the remote capital from Laos, where he launched a two-week tour of the region on Thursday, the Myanmar official said on condition of anonymity. Another official said earlier that Mr Webb would meet Than Shwe on Saturday, becoming the first senior American official to hold talks with the head of Myanmar's military junta.
