MANILA // Hundreds of workers at the Philippines' weather agency have staged a protest over unpaid cash benefits, but promised not to walk out as the country grapples with recent massive flooding and a passing storm.
Protest leader Ramos Agustin says weathermen, including forecasters, wore black arm bands and hoisted streamers today at the weather agency's headquarters pleading for help from President Benigno Aquino III.
While the weathermen do not plan any work stoppages, Mr Agustin said some employees have failed to report for work due to lack of money.
Nearly 100 people died and three million were battered by massive flooding that engulfed Manila and nearby provinces last week after days of relentless rains.
After the deluge, a storm blew in and began to threaten still-soggy regions.
