Bahrain’s National Dialogue has been suspended, the country’s official news agency reported on Wednesday.

The government’s representatives at the talks backed the decision to halt the sessions but “stressed the need to continue consultations and national work towards consolidating political gains”, according to the Bahrain News Agency. The dialogue was initiated by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in July 2011 to encourage discussion about governance in the country. More than 300 organisations have participated in the sessions.
