ABU DHABI // The track is still missing, but new images from Yas Island show that good progress has been made on the city's Formula One complex. This picture of Philippe Gurdjian, the Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management boss, and Thomas Hoffman, his communications chief, shows the main grandstand and team buildings nearing completion.

And, although the ground is still covered in sand, the start/finish straight, where the last action of next season will take place in Nov 2009, is nearing completion. Other new pictures show that the marina is almost complete. The water is deep enough to host the world's biggest yachts, providing some of the best views of the racing. Gradually flooding the marina, which adjoins team buildings and a hotel, will begin early next year.

Announcements on the specifications of the Yas Island track are expected next month. @Email:rhughes@thenational.ae
