ABU DHABI // Ten workers were hospitalised after an explosion at a factory in Mussaffah on Thursday afternoon.

Yesterday, six of the workers were released from Mafraq Hospital, while four others were still receiving treatment.

One was reported to be in a serious condition.

The incident happened at about 1.30pm at the premises of a piping company in Mussaffah industrial estate.

At the time of the explosion about 150 of the company’s 2,000 staff were at work.

A staff member at Mafraq Hospital said: “Thank God there were no major casualties.

“We are sincerely praying that the remaining injured workers get well very soon.”

Most of the injured are believed to be from India.

“We are aware about the sad incident that happened yesterday where some Indian workers were injured,” said a spokesman for the Indian embassy.

“We will be extending all kinds of possible support.”
