A worker who shoved his colleague during a fight causing him to die due to heart failure must see out his two-year jail sentence, a Dubai court has ruled.
The two men argued while at their shared labour accommodation in Al Muhaisnah on January 18. The reason for the fight was not disclosed in court records.
The argument turned violent and the drunk Indian accused, 35, shoved his compatriot. whose age was not disclosed in records.
The man fell to the ground struggling to breathe.
Workers who witnessed the fight called police and the unconscious victim was attended to by paramedics.
He died in hospital a few hours later.
"They both attacked each other but only using hands," said an Indian worker, who lived with the two men.
A medical report revealed that the fight prompted the man to have heart failure.
At Dubai Criminal Court in March, the accused denied a charge of physical assault that caused a man's death but admitted to consuming alcohol without a license.
He was sentenced to two years in prison to be followed by deportation for the first charge and was fined Dh2,000 for drinking alcohol without a licence.
On Sunday, the defendant appealed his sentence but it was upheld.
