An Emirati woman was killed on Friday after her car made a sudden swerve and overturned on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Umm Al Quwain. The 30-year-old was driving towards Sharjah, and was not wearing a seatbelt.

The accident was reported to the emirate’s police at around 6am and ambulances and traffic patrols were dispatched to the scene shortly afterwards, according to Lt Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, the chief of traffic in Umm Al Quwain.

The driver’s sudden swerve caused the vehicle to roll over several times, throwing the victim out of the car, Lt Col bin Aran told Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.

The woman died instantly.
