Website allows employees to calculate their pension and gratuity

Public and private sector employees can calculate their pension and end-of-service gratuity according to age, period of service and average salary for the past three years on the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) website.

The GPSSA also provides explanations to inquiries concerning employees’ obligation to pay 5 per cent of the contributions which the employer deducts from their monthly salary and remits to the GPSSA.

In the public sector, the contributions are deducted from the monthly basic salary, citizenship allowance, child benefits, cost of living allowance and housing allowance. For private sector employees, they are deducted from the basic salary and the allowances and benefits as set out in the employment contract.

Public entities are responsible for the payment of 15 per cent of their employees’ contributions while private sector employers make 12.5 per cent of these contributions with the remaining 2.5 per cent being paid by the government. The law has set the contributions to a minimum of Dh1,000 and a maximum of Dh50,000.
