SHARJAH // A campaign to encourage Emiratis to safeguard possessions such as letters, photos, videos, newspapers, books, marriage and birth certificates, and any other historical documentation, has been launched by The National Archives.
A total of 250,000 storage boxes for the ‘Watheq’ campaign will be distributed so people can safely store items of personal and national importance.
“Watheq represents a national collaboration in which the entire society takes collective responsibility for preserving the memories of its homeland,” said Dr Abdullah Al Rayes, director general of the National Archives.
The government regularly sends valuable historical documents to The National Archives, and all citizens are duty-bound to safeguard any material of national significance, said Mr Al Rayes.
The boxes are resistant to moisture and are being distributed in phases by Emirates Post.
