Watch out for robbers while out at sea, fishermen warned

The Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority (CICPA) has advised fishing boat captains and crews to exercise caution at sea and take the necessary action in the event of problems.

Coastguards have warned fishermen to protect themselves against being robbed while out at sea.

In a message distributed to all fishermen associations across the emirates, the Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority (CICPA) advised fishing boat captains and crews to exercise caution at sea and take the necessary action in the event of problems.

Saeed Obaid bin Harif, deputy chairman of Umm Al Quwain Fishermen’s Association UAQFA, said the UAQFA received a letter, which was then sent via text message to all fishermen.

Mr bin Harif said CICPA’s message aimed to protect Emirati fishermen from any assaults at sea, noting that all fishing boats are registered to be equipped with a GPS tracking device and a CICPA-connected emergency button, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
