SHARJAH // Eight workers were injured in a warehouse fire in the Al Sajja industrial area today.

The blaze started in a warehouse used to store pesticide before spreading to a furniture warehouse. Both buildings were destroyed, said Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, the director general of Sharjah Civil Defence.

"Fire fighters from Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai all helped in tackling the blaze for six hours as chemicals in the two warehouses spread and increased the fire," he said.

"The premises are still cordoned off as fire fighters do the cooling."

Brig Al Suwaidi said that the injured workers were being treated in Al Qassimi hospital and Kuwait hospital.

He appealed to all warehouse owners to strictly follow fire safety rules and storage of chemicals properly.
