UAQ shop closed down for selling offensive memorabilia

A shop in Umm Al Quwain has been closed for selling items carrying slogans that “tarnish the UAE’s image”.

Flags, scarves, mugs and statues bearing the name of the country in an “inappropriate manner” were confiscated and legal proceedings will be brought against the shop owner, officials said.

Jumaa Al Mansouri, head of consumer protection at the Department of Economic Development, said strict measures will be taken against shops selling offensive merchandise ahead of National Day.

He urged residents to report vendors in violation while inspections are carried out across the emirate.
