UAE weather: Flooding in Fujairah causes traffic chaos

Heavy rain on Sunday night led to flooding in parts of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan, cutting access to the main road to Kalba.

The weather caused traffic to come to a standstill at valley roads and mountain passes, with Khor Fakkan Municipality ordering the temporary closure of the city’s main road heading towards Fujairah.

Elsewhere across the country, weather was calm, though people were told to expect hazy conditions and light showers on Monday morning, the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology said.

Coastal areas should hit highs of 33°C, and wind is expected to pick up throughout the day.

In preparation for the upcoming rainy season, the Minister of Public Works has instructed teams from the ministry to start putting plans in place to avoid any potential problems caused by heavy rainfall.

Mohammed Al Nuaimi called on ministry staff to carry out field visits in the northern and eastern parts of the country in order to determine what procedures are required to avoid emergency situations.

As part of its plan, the ministry is working alongside local governments and departments, as well as other partners, Mr Al Nuaimi said.
