The UAE's ambassador to the US launched a public diplomacy programme to highlight the close ties between the two countries.

Yousef Al Otaiba, the ambassador, had announced the United for a Better Future programme for National Day.

The campaign highlights the economic partnership, cultural relations and security and military cooperation. It includes a website, YouTube channel, Twitter and Facebook pages.

The embassy has also included advertising, such as sponsored messages and other advertisements for the American magazine Foreign Policy.

“The UAE and the United States are different countries with different histories, cultures and political systems. But at the same time, we recognise that we have more in common today than ever before. Today, Emiratis and Americans are united by shared interests and common values,” Mr Al Otaiba said at the National Day event.

The UAE may be small in size but is a “big partner” with the US “in security, in prosperity and in outlook”, he said.

Those points of cooperation and others, including the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and the embassy’s Community Soccer Programme, are highlighted on the website uaeusaunited.com.

The UAE is the largest export market for the US in the region, with more than US$22 billion (Dh80.8bn) in exports in 2012, according to the embassy website, and also hosts more than 2,000 US military personnel.
