UAE Traffic: Hour long delays reported on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Dubai

It may be half-term, but drivers still faced heavy congestion on Monday morning

Drivers heading towards Dubai from Ajman and Sharjah on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road were at a standstill on Monday morning.

Police in Sharjah urged caution from motorists due to heavier than usual traffic that had caused delays since about 6.50am.

Some drivers had been stuck in traffic for more than an hour, and abandoned usual routes to take up an alternative.

“After an hour of being stuck, I - and so did many motorists-  took inner roads to head to alternative roads mainly Sharjah International Airport road in order to get to Emirates Road but it's the same scenario,” said one motorist, who had reported the delays.

"I have been to Sharjah International Airport Road trying to reach the Emirates bypass road and it is just as bad.
"The tailbacks are all the way to inside roads of Ajman and Sharjah. I made calls with family and friends who are stuck there too."

Elsewhere, Hessa Street in Dubai and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street in Abu Dhabi were other more familiar areas of congestion for motorists on Monday morning.

Drivers can expect delays of up to five minutes on the E10 near to Al Bateen Airport as traffic continues to build in the area during rush hour.

Roads leading to and from Dubai International Airport are also busy, with motorists encouraged to plan for extra time to complete their journey.
