During its inaugural meeting in Abu Dhabi, the UAE Space Agency Working Group on Space Policy and Law discussed a development plan, space law and organisational regulation.
The group identified important topics to review during its meeting, including the goals of space sector development and setting up frameworks that apply to space-related activities in the country.
It noted that understanding trends in the industry would contribute to the strategic development of a successful UAE space sector and would therefore support the growth locally.
Dr Mohammed Al Ahbabi, director general of the agency, said the most important issue for the working group is a discussion of Emirati human capital in the space industry, and ways to improve the current capacity of the UAE in the sector.
He said that will require identifying capacity gaps and working to resolve them through the development of training programmes for nationals.

Rules will also be laid out for adult dependants, meaning they will have to demonstrate a basic understanding of the language.
The plans also call for stricter tests for colleges and universities offering places to foreign students and a reduction in the time graduates can remain in the UK after their studies from two years to 18 months.
