CAIRO // The UAE has delivered 200 buses to Egypt, the second installment of 600 buses it has pledged to donate to Cairo’s public transport authority.

The donated buses were manufactured by Abu Dhabi’s Hafilat Industries and JB Polo Buses Manufacturing in Egypt, the Coordination Office of the UAE-funded Development Projects in Egypt said, according to the state news agency Wam.

As many as 600,000 residents of Cairo are expected to use the buses, which could help reduce chronic traffic congestion and accidents in the city, as well as cut transport costs by 50 per cent, the office said.

Jalal Saeed, governor of Cairo, praised the UAE for its support for his country and noted that the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed, laid the foundations for solid relations between them.

The first installment of buses were delivered to Egypt in early March.
