UAE authorities have moved to assure consumers that all products sold in the country meet stringent quality standards.

The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology said all goods manufactured in the Emirates or imported  from other countries are in compliance with national and regional standards.

In a statement on state news agency, Wam, the body said all goods sold in the country must adhere to its Emirates Quality Mark.

Esma said it was investigating allegations made on social media regarding some products and urged members of the public with concerns to contact regulatory authorities.

Esma said the production lines of several factories operating in the country belong to major international brands, and manufacturing is carried out in accordance with the highest standards in order to meet the expectations of customers.

Last week, 41 brands of thermal flasks were to be taken off the shelves with immediate effect after being found to contain cancer-causing asbestos fibres.

Consumers were urged to purchase flasks carrying the Emirates Conformity Assessment System mark, established by Esma, which guarantees they are safe to use.

“The commercial compliance and consumer protection sector in Dubai has set up a specialised team in co-operation with the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology to address traders and guide them to withdraw asbestos-containing thermal flasks,” said Mohammed Lootah, chief executive of the consumer protection sector at Dubai's Department of Economic Development.
