UAE Ambassador to the US earns Hall of Fame accolade

The UAE Ambassador to the US, Yousef al Otaiba, has been inducted into the International Fellows Hall of Fame at the National Defence University (NDU) at Fort McNair in Washington, DC.

He joins a group of senior government and military officials who have been inducted for demonstrating "enduring military, diplomatic, or humanitarian contribution to international peace and stability".

Mr al Otaiba served as an International Fellow at NDU in 2000. The programme provides professional military education to senior military officers and defence officials from allied and friendly nations of the US. The programme established the Hall of Fame to recognise distinguished graduates.

At Thursday's ceremony, Mr al Otaiba was honoured by Maj Gen Joseph Brown, commandant of the Industrial College of the US Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Ann E Rondeau, president of the NDU, and Ambassador Thomas C Krajeski, the senior vice president of NDU. The former US secretary of defence William S Cohen also attended the event along with senior UAE Embassy officials.

Mr al Otaiba said: "I believe that we endeavour to create a climate safe for dialogue among diverse peoples with divergent and often competing interests.

"We aim to protect against those who may wish to disturb and disrupt against the stability and security of our countries."
