ABU DHABI // Children in the Philippines who survived the devastating Typhoon Haiyan have paid tribute to Sheikh Khalifa, President of the UAE, as they danced, sang and hoisted the UAE flag in thanks for humanitarian support.
The children said “thank you” in Arabic to an Emirates Red Crescent Authority delegation in the Philippines fduring a reception organised by local education officials to honour the UAE or reconstructing 10 schools.
The team is visiting to implement Sheikh Khalifa’s directives to deliver US$10 million in humanitarian aid.
“The UAE sends a message of love and peace to the world at a time of violence, extremism and hate slogans that triggered wars, displaced families from their homes and destroyed schools and hospitals,” said Dr Hamdan Al Mazrouei, chairman of the ERC board of directors.
More than 6,000 people died two years ago when the typhoon flattened Tacloban city in the central Philippines.
