ABU DHABI // Two Emirati men attempted to murder their compatriot with a meat cleaver, the Criminal Court heard on Monday.

The defendants broke the windscreen of the Emirati victim’s car, using the weapon, before forcing him out and attacking him.

The victim was admitted to hospital following the attack.

Upon their arrest, after being charged with attempted murder, police discovered traces of Tramadol in their urine samples.

The pair were also charged with consuming illegal psychotropic drugs and driving under the influence of drugs.

The first defendant denied attacking the man with the cleaver and said he had a “normal argument” with him.

The second defendant said he was inside the car and was not involved in the quarrel and said he did not know why he was arrested.

The court adjourned the case until October 13 to appoint a lawyer.
