ABU DHABI // Two boats collided offshore Zaya Nurai Island in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
An official at the emergency department of Abu Dhabi’s coast guard police confirmed the next day that the collision was due to the captains’ mistakes and the boats’ poor condition to operate in that area.
But he ruled out that incident was due to stormy weather conditions that day.
Although the official did not confirm whether there were any injuries, he said the parties concerned were all “fine.”
According to sources on the island, a man and woman were reportedly injured with cuts to the head and around 40 people from both boats were treated for shock.
The incident happened during the Formula One 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix drivers’ press conference.
The water was said to be very choppy that night with strong winds.
Zaya Nurai Island Resort is situated along the Arabian Gulf in Abu Dhabi, a 12-minute boat ride from Saadiyat Island and a 60-minute journey from Downtown Dubai.
