UAE traffic: accidents on major roads cause standstills

Two accidents on Sheikh Zayed Road and one on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street led to major delays for commuters

Rush hour traffic was exacerbated on key roads in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on Tuesday by multiple accidents.

An accident just before the turn for Dalma Street caused bumper-to-bumper traffic along Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street for motorists heading towards the corniche. Congestion only began to ease near Abu Dhabi Police Officers Club.

A car broke down on Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Road on the intersection of Salama bint Butti Street causing delays for motorists heading out of the city. Abu Dhabi Police said the left lane had been blocked and advised commuters to seek alternative routes to avoid being caught in congestion.

In Dubai, two accidents inbound along Sheikh Zayed Road caused heavy delays between Al Safa 2 and the intersection for Barsha Heights. Further ahead, Google Maps showed stagnant traffic between Business Bay Metro Station and Oasis Mall for southbound motorists.

Heavy traffic was also reported near Jebel Ali Village on Al Yalayis Street towards Sheikh Zayed Road, according to @TrafficDXB.

Congestion was reported on Um Suqueim Road beginning from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road all the way to Sheikh Zayed Road.

Ras Al Khor Road towards the city was also busy between the intersections for Dubai - Al Ain Road and Nad Al Hamar Road.
