AL AIN // Three people, including a mother and her 10-year-old daughter, were killed in two early-morning road crashes yesterday. Just past midnight, a Toyota Land Cruiser carrying seven members of an Emirati family was driving along Tawam Street when the driver, Mohammed Salem al Efai, lost control while going around a roundabout. The vehicle hit a curb and rolled over before coming to rest off the road. Inside were the driver, two women, three boys and the girl.

Police and four ambulances rushed to the scene to find that the girl and her mother had been killed and the driver and the three boys seriously injured. The second woman escaped injury. Many witnesses who rushed to the scene to try to help were shocked and in tears. Police were quick to clear the scene of onlookers and as paramedics tended to the injured a policeman carried the dead girl, wrapped in a blanket, and placed her out of sight in his car.

All the injured were rushed to Tawam Hospital, while the dead were taken to Al Ain Hospital. Almost seven hours later an Emirati man, Abdullah al Dhaheri, 37, was driving in the Maqam district when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a curb and two palm trees. He was killed instantly. His body was also taken to Al Ain Hospital, and he was buried yesterday afternoon. ealghalib@thenational.ae
