Four accidents were reported on the Abu Dhabi-bound side, leaving 55 cars damaged.

Emergency crews, police patrols and a helicopter were sent to the scene shortly after 8am.

Four more crashes, in which four people were injured, occurred on Dubai-bound lanes.

They victims were sent for treatment to a nearby hospital.

The accidents led to long tailbacks on the motorway throughout the morning.

Col Al Mazrouei said the crashes were caused mainly by speeding and tailgating.
