SHARJAH // The speed limit buffers on two Sharjah roads have been reduced.
Sharjah Police has lowered the speed people can drive at without getting a fine on the roads in Khor Fakkan to 101kph from 121kph to curb the number of accidents on approach to the east coast town.
Maj Mohammed Khilfan, acting director of Traffic and Patrols in the eastern region, said the move comes in a crackdown on reckless drivers.
“Cameras on Al Jaradiya Road and Omar bin Al Khattab Road are now set at 101kph, and will help in curbing overspeeding and reckless driving in the city,” he said, adding that the move is part of police’s ongoing effort to increase safety and reduce deaths on the emirate’s roads.
“Fixed and mobile speed cameras have been deployed on those roads to catch offenders,” the major said, urging residents to drive within the speed limit and to adhere to traffic rules to avoid fatalities.
