ABU DHABI // High-speed Wi-Fi will be available in TransAD’s fleet of Mercedes Vito compact vans, to coincide with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hired Cars said the service would be available from November 27.
Mohammed Darwish Al Qamzi, director general of TransAD, told Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National, that other Abu Dhabi taxis would be kitted out with the technology soon.
Mr Al Qamzi said the Wi-Fi would be of huge benefit to tourists who otherwise might not have data on their phones.
It is one of many services launched by TransAD to provide integrated transport services to its customers.
The 270 Vito compact vans are similar to black taxis at the airport, with a capacity for five passengers. They run on eco-friendly green diesel and are also wheelchair-friendly.
No information was given on whether the Wi-Fi service was free or chargeable.
