SHARJAH // King Faisal Road reopened to commuters ahead of schedule on Thursday, Sharjah Road and Transport Authority said.

The Dh11.4 million upgrade project, which started in July, should reduce commute times for residents.

In September the road in the direction of Sharjah Central Market was opened and, on Thursday, the opposite side, from Sharjah Central Market towards Al Wanda, was opened.

Yousef Al Sewiji, the authority’s director, said that work on the road included resurfacing of lanes and the addition of a metal central reservation to help protect pedestrians.

“Complete maintenance work has been carried out on traffic lights and signals,” added the director.

Service roads have also been resurfaced.
