SHARJAH // Police have launched a campaign to raise awareness of safety on the roads among motorists and pedestrians.
Officers distributed brochures around the emirate showing the proper guidelines that motorists should abide with to make sure pedestrians are safe while crossing the road.
“Pedestrians and motorists have a responsibility on the roads, motorist should drive slowly in crowded areas to make sure pedestrians are safe, they also need to comply with all traffic laws,” said Major Abdul Rahman Khatir, director of traffic awareness department.
“On the other hand, pedestrians should cross the roads from designated areas, and to make sure that the roads are clear and safe before crossing,” added Maj Khatir.
According to statistics from Sharjah Police, 239 run over accidents were reported in Sharjah last year, resulting in 33 deaths.
