FUJAIRAH // A bus supervisor saved a 4-year-old child from choking after he accidentally swallowed a coin.

Widad Al Khidr, 45, from Sudan, said she realised the passenger was struggling with his breathing so she instructed the driver to stop the bus and call emergency services.

She then retrieved the coin using the skills learnt during her first aid training.

The next day, the boy’s parents told the school he was in good health and thanked Ms Al Khidr.

Mohammed Al Jarman, Emirates Transport’s general manager, honoured Ms Al Khidr for her quick actions and professionalism.

Ms Al Khidr has attended 35 training programmes to give bus supervisors skills to ensure pupil’s safety while they are on the bus.

The incident happened in Fujairah on November 2.
