DUBAI // Transport authorities have asked commuters to ditch unlicensed transport such as cars, vans or bus services that are being promoted on the internet or via mobile applications.
“Riders are vulnerable to manipulated fare, bad treatment, immoral behaviour especially with women,” said Yousef Al Ali, chief executive of the Roads and Transport Authority’s Public Transport Agency. “Vehicles used in such activities are not subjected to periodic inspections and lack the standard security and safety stipulations.”
He said although such unlicensed travel was not rampant in Dubai, it did occur here and this prompted the RTA to issue a cautionary public warning. Commuters using unlicensed transport cannot alert transport authorities about drivers in buses or cars crossing the speed limit, he said.
As per the law, fines of up to Dh5,000 can be charged to those involved in illegal passenger transport.
