DUBAI // The Roads and Transport Authority has tweeted an apology to people living in and around Jumeirah Beach Residence and Dubai Marina for the inconvenience caused by the Dubai Tram roadworks.

The RTA said it was committed to completing the project on time and several junctions would be opened this week to ease traffic congestion. Work on all major junctions will be completed and opened before the end of September.

“We would like to apologise to all road users in the areas surrounding the Dubai Tram Project for the inconvenience caused due to traffic,” said the RTA on Twitter.

The tweet assured the public that the RTA was “committed to the completion of this project on time, which will serve both residents and visitors and will provide easy accessibility in the area”.

People living in Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence, as well as motorists driving through the area, have had to put up with years of work.

But now an end to the disruption and delays is in sight.

Last week Dubai Police urged residents to remain patient as work on the multimillion-dirham project was nearing completion.

Col Jamal Al Bannai, acting director of the general department of traffic, said he understood people’s frustration but the tram would be hugely beneficial.

“We understand that some people are getting angry, the traffic now is so that there will be a lot less congestion in the future, when the tram starts running,” he said last week.

The tram line along Al Sufouh Street will serve the communities of JBR, Dubai Marina and Al Sufouh, with 10.6km of track in the first phase beginning at Dubai Marina and ending at the tram depot near Dubai Police Academy.
