DUBAI // The speed limit on the Dubai – Hatta Road from Mizairee to the Omani Border Post will be reduced from 120kmph to 100kmph, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.

The decision was taken in the interest of public safety and to curb the number of traffic accidents, Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency said.

Statistics showed that 20 accidents resulting in five fatalities occurred on the stretch of road between 2010-2015.

“High speed is considered a direct contributor to 20 per cent of fatal crashes; which obviously tells that speed control is one of the most effective tools of reducing accidents,” explained Mr bin Udia.

“The RTA is continuously revising maximum speeds on some vital roads in the emirate to increase or reduce the limits depending on the condition of the road and the surrounding environment.”
