The driver believed to be responsible for the deaths of two Emirati brothers and injuring four women from the same family in a car accident in Ras Al Khaimah has been arrested.
On Wednesday, police said the 38-year-old Pakistani motorist was driving on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road when he braked suddenly.
The woman driving the family car panicked and swerved off the road to avoid him, slamming into a road barrier and flipping the car several times.
The impact of the crash killed the two men, aged 23 and 11, instantly while the four women were seriously hurt and rushed to hospital.
Three teams from Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai and Umm Al Quwain traffic police worked together to track down and arrest the driver, who works as a security guard at a building in Ras Al Khaimah.
“The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the legal procedures and take the necessary action against the Asian driver who caused the accident,” said Brig Ahmed Al Naqbi, director of traffic and patrols department at RAK Police.
He also called on motorists to abide by traffic laws and speed limits to avoid such accidents.

What is Financial Fair Play?
Introduced in 2011 by Uefa, European football’s governing body, it demands that clubs live within their means. Chiefly, spend within their income and not make substantial losses.
What the rules dictate?
The second phase of its implementation limits losses to €30 million (Dh136m) over three seasons. Extra expenditure is permitted for investment in sustainable areas (youth academies, stadium development, etc). Money provided by owners is not viewed as income. Revenue from “related parties” to those owners is assessed by Uefa's “financial control body” to be sure it is a fair value, or in line with market prices.
What are the penalties?
There are a number of punishments, including fines, a loss of prize money or having to reduce squad size for European competition – as happened to PSG in 2014. There is even the threat of a competition ban, which could in theory lead to PSG’s suspension from the Uefa Champions League.

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
