Plans unveiled to ease traffic flow in Sharjah and Ajman

As part of Gulf Traffic Week, the Ajman Municipality and planning directorate is embarking on a scheme to build more roads and expand existing ones.

AJMAN // Plans to ease traffic flow and reduce fatalities on the roads of Sharjah and Ajman have been unveiled.

As part of Gulf Traffic Week, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid, chairman of the Ajman Municipality and planning directorate, said the authority was embarking on a scheme to build more roads and expand existing ones.

"As we accomplish the Humaidiya bridge project we have two more bridge projects we are going to launch this year," he said. "We are planning a bridge at the intersection of GMC Hospital and another bridge at the Ajman City Centre mall intersection."

Brig Gen Ali Alwan, commander in chief of Ajman Police, said officers were planning a series of awareness campaigns to help boost safety on the roads. "Our target is to reduce road fatalities in the emirate this year," he said.

Maj Gen Humaid Mohammed Al Hudaidi, commander in chief of Sharjah Police, said Gulf Traffic Week's theme, "Your Safety is Our Aim", reflected the priority the Ministry of Interior and governments of GCC countries attached to every road user's safety.

He said officers were planning a traffic-awareness exhibition and would be handing out brochures on safety, as well as holding seminars.

Maj Gen Al Hudaidi urged all road users to help build a culture of safety by following all traffic regulations.
