DUBAI // One person was killed and four others seriously injured in traffic accidents at the weekend, said Dubai Police.
Brig Saif Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic, said that a man was killed on Saturday morning on Emirates Road when his minibus crashed into a pickup truck.
“The incident took place at about 10.45am near the Al Aweir exit towards Sharjah and was a result of speeding,” he said. “The minibus driver was speeding and crashed into a pickup truck, which was at a standstill owing to congestion.”
On Friday, a man was seriously injured after being run over by an Emirati man.
“This incident took place in the Jumeirah area at 4.30pm when an Emirati driver overtook the vehicle in front of him, running over the pedestrian,” Brig Al Mazrouei said.
In another incident, a motorist was seriously injured on Sheikh Zayed Road when his vehicle crashed into the cement barrier and flipped over.
Also on Friday, a driver hit the pavement on Al Aweir street, which resulted in the car flipping on to the other side of the road. One person was injured and taken to hospital.
Brig Al Mazrouei said the last incident took place on Saturday at 11.30pm near a labour camp in Al Qusais.
“A cyclist was seriously injured when a vehicle ran him over while trying to cross the road from an undesignated area,” he said. “The cyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.”
