Statistics from the general department for traffic coordination showed that nine people were killed and 62 injured in traffic accidents across the country during the Eid Al Adha break, from October 3 to October 6.
Non-observance of traffic direction and driving under the influence of alcohol were the leading causes of accidents (eight), followed by failure to maintain a safe distance between vehicles, negligence, sudden swerving and entering a road without making sure it is clear.
Two accidents were caused by lack of good judgement on the part of road users and five were attributed to other causes.
