DUBAI // Changes to penalties for road users found in violation of traffic regulations around the Dubai Tram have been announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
Rules published in the government’s Official Gazette have been amended to include details of fines imposed for drivers jumping red lights and causing accidents at tramway intersections.
Changes have been added to existing rules to enhance safety on the tram system, officials said.
The new resolution states that jumping the red light at the tramway intersection and causing a traffic accident with fatalities will invite a minimum fine of Dh15,000 and a maximum fine of Dh30,000, with a suspension of the driver’s licence for up to three years.

Contractors working in tram areas found to breach rules could face fines up to Dh500,000.
