DUBAI // Five new bus routes including an intercity service to Sharjah have been introduced across the emirate.
The first new route F02 starts at Al Fahidi metro station, heading to Al Karama via Al Mankhool and Burjuman.
Other routes include F16 from Noor Bank metro station toward the new Al Quoz residential area, F17 from Noor Bank metro station to Al Khail gate residential area and F42 from Ibn Battuta metro station to Discovery Gardens.
Route E301 is an intercity bus service from the Stadium metro station to the new Al Taawon station in Sharjah, said Adel Mohammed Shakri, director of transportation systems at the Roads and Transport Authority’s Public Transport Agency.
Some 13 routes have been improved with additional stops and more frequent service.
Route F54 has been extended to UAE Exchange metro station, F05 to Arabian Center, F03 to Mirdiff East, F26 to Al Quoz bus station, F46 to Dunes village, 99 to Jebel Ali South, F47 to the Expo 2020 office and F33 to the Al Barsha mall bus station.
The frequency on routes F0 and F25 has been increased and the headway on three routes including 27, C04 and F43 has been reduced.
This is part of the RTA’s aim to make public transport riders happier and match the growing demand for public bus services, the RTA said.
“The Public Transport Agency has always been keen on broadening and improving the Dubai bus network and the intercity network,” Mr Shakri said.
“The agency carries out studies and surveys to assess the needs of mass transit users in Dubai to address them at the earliest possible time.”
The authority also pays heed to suggestions from the community about expanding the reach of the public transport network, he said.
Commuters can express their views via the RTA portal.
