A motorist was killed and five others were injured in a crash involving six cars in Mussaffah on Saturday.

Abu Dhabi Police said the accident happened before the Shabiya bridge in Mussaffah but did not disclose the details of the crash or which of the motorists died.

Police investigations revealed that the cause of the crash was distracted drivers, not leaving enough distance between vehicles and speeding.

Lt Col Dr Musallam Al Junaibi, head of the Accident Investigation Department at the Department of Traffic and Patrols, said the motorists were “speeding without taking into consideration the condition of the road.”

Those injured were taken to the nearest hospital and Lt Col Al Junaibi described their injuries as "minor to moderate".

He called on all motorists to abide by the country's traffic laws and speed limits and not to drive while distracted.
