More than four million journeys were taken on Dubai's public transport system over the Eid Al Adha break.

That's according to the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority.

Dubai Metro and taxis were the most popular mode of transport. Of the four million trips, about 1.36 million used Dubai's two metro lines and 1.3m used taxis.

The public bus network was the third-most popular mode of transport, with just over 1m journeys taken in the fleet.

About 220,000 journeys were on ferries, while 55,983 used the tram. Eid is often marked by heavy traffic.

Dubai, meanwhile, has been been a sustained push to encourage more people to use public transport. Just last month a new ferry service was launched between Dubai and Sharjah to cut the notorious heavy traffic between the two emirates.
