A jet skier died after falling off his vehicle on Saturday evening in the waters near Fujairah city's corniche.
The 36-year-old Arab expat, whose nationality was not released, was on his own when the accident happened, said Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Hassani, head of media relations at Fujairah Police.
"We received a report at 7.30pm that a man was drowning opposite Fujairah Corniche," he said.
Rescue police reached the man and pulled him from the water.
"He was then transferred to a public hospital for first aid, because he was in a very critical state," the officer said.
He died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Lt Col Al Hassani said the man was jet skiing on his own, and "a by passer saw him and reported the accident."
There was no apparent technical fault with the jet ski that may have caused the fall, and the victim did not hit his head while falling, "he just fell in the water and started to drown", he added.
