An Emirati woman and four of her children have died in a car accident in Saudi Arabia.

The family were visiting the Kingdom this week when the accident happened, according to Arabic language newspaper Al Khaleej.

The family were travelling in two cars in Al Nairyah, a small town about 150km south of the Kuwaiti border. The first car was driven by the mother, 41, and carried five children, aged between 3 and 22 years old, and the second was driven by her husband, Mubarak Al Mazroui, who was carrying other passengers, Al Khaleej said.

They were on their way to a winter camp when a speeding vehicle crashed into the mother's car.

Five of the six passengers in the mother's car reportedly died on impact. The woman's 18-year-old daughter was the sole survivor and is currently in intensive care at a hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Funeral prayers were held in Al Souq mosque in Al Nairyah and the family were buried in a nearby cemetery.
