Etihad Airways cancelled a flight from Abu Dhabi to Peshawar on Wednesday evening because of security concerns at Peshawar Airport in Pakistan, reported Al Ittihad, The National's Arabic-language sister newspaper.

The airline indicated that affected passengers were given bookings on alternative airlines to and from Pakistan.

Etihad’s scheduled flight to Peshawar on Thursday night was also cancelled.

The company emphasised that the security and safety of its passengers and employees was of great importance and affected passengers were being informed as the situation evolved.

Emirates Airline suspended its flights to and from Peshawar as of Wednesday until further notice, citing security concerns in the region. The airline’s spokesman said passengers affected by the suspension are urged to follow the latest developments through its website, adding that it will help passengers with existing reservations to find bookings on alternative flights.

Emirates apologised for such action, saying circumstances were not within its control and that ensuring the safety of passengers and crews was a top priority.
