Dubai will introduce a new toll gate on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road from Wednesday.

The Salik checkpoint located near Jebel Ali and before the intersection of Yalayis will be the seventh gate in Dubai.

It is expected to generate hundreds of thousands of dirhams in annual revenue for the city's transport authorities, with drivers being charged Dh4 each time they use the route.

“The new toll gate will reduce traffic flow to Sheikh Zayed Road by 25 per cent and encourage residents to use public transportation,” said Mattar Al Tayer, speaking in July.

He said the RTA was aiming to redistribute traffic movement and divert some of the traffic flow to alternative routes, including the Emirates Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and Al Khail Road.
